Graham Roper - The Woodcrafter

An engineer by trade Graham has been a pyrographer since 1998.  Over the past two years he has expanded his craft-skills to include relief carving and woodcarving.

Besides depicting numerous creatures from the animal kingdom Graham has created portraits of British historical figures such as Elizabeth I, Henry VIII, Winston Churchill, and Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

His most ambitious work to date is a version of Botticelli’s ‘Primavera’ (shown left with Graham) that took over 100 hours to complete.

He has demonstrated pyrography at a range of events including at Cressing Temple Barns in Essex as well as travelling to Erfurt, Germany for a special craft event organised by The Guild of Essex Craftsmen of which he is a member. Often visitors to events can try their own hand at pyrography with Graham and personalise a bookmark or key ring.

Some of his work is also available in craft centres such as Wild About Birds in Surrey.

Graham works from pictures and photographs as well as designing original pieces. He accepts commissions.
